Robust although delicate and sophisticated, the Neil pendant showcases wonderful work on the material. The lampshade is made of a single piece of alabaster: The stone is delicately worked with finesse in order to obtain a spherical form that is very thin. When the light is switched on, the lampshade becomes slightly translucent and lights up, highlighting the delicate veins. This material effect creates a wonderful contrast of light and shade on the lampshade. Neil translates the vibratory richness of alabaster, a stone with multiple light and pattern variations.
